mnGapAutotrader Live Trading Results September 2010

admin | September 2nd, 2010 - 6:58 pm

This post will be updated regularly with the trading results achieved in September 2010 by our mnGapAutotrader, which automatically trades the opening gap.

The results have been obtained from live trades trading three contracts (3 lots) with S&P index futures (ES), Dow futures (YM) and Nasdaq futures (NQ). Our conservative trading strategy was used for all trades.

All results show profits and losses (in $USD) after commission and slippages – they are true achieved P&L figures.

Please note

“No Trade” indicates that the trader did not take a trade as the gap size was too small and would have yielded an unfavourable risk/reward ratio.

    Dear Sirs,

I am currently interested in buying your trading system can you please explain which parameters (stop loss, full or partial gains)did you set to reach the performances indicated in your blog. Did you use always the same parameters or did you adapt them to the market situation.

    Best regards,

    Alfonso Rusciano

    Hi Alfonso

    Thank you for your enquiry.

We take a view on gap size before the market opens and either set up the autotrader with its default stop loss functionality if the gap is small (less than 4 points on the ES, for example). It is very likely (though not certain) that these small gaps will fill quickly.

If the gap is large, then we set up the autotrader with a user defined stop loss amount of around 50% of gap size. This suggestion came from one of our users.

This has been so successful that the latest version of the autotrader (version 1.10), which is currently being beta tested now has an auto half gap stop, which will automatically set the stop loss to 50% of gap size.

This larger stop loss has resulted in some of the larger wins that we have published but can result in bigger drawdowns, of course.

The auto moving of the stop loss to break even and then to profit target one (version 1.19) when profit target two is achieved, has also increased the profitability of the system over recent months and this is shown by the positive monthly P&L’s.

As I hope you can see from this reply, this autotrader concentrates heavily on automated trade and risk management, which is giving it positive results over time.
